Nels received his education at the Happy Corner School. He and Ellenwere the first couple married in the St. Petri Lutheran Church. Theybought a farm in 1907, the west half-section in Section 5 in AugsburgTownship from Mr. Baker. The first owner of 160 acres was GeorgeMurray. He had bought it from the Railroad in 1888 for $ 48 and theother 160 acres was bought by Robert Murray in 1890 for $ 480.09. Mr.Baker acquired the land from these two men, and Nels became the nextowner.
Nels and Ellen were friendly Christian neighbors, always helpful toanyone who needed help. They lived in an old log house for many yearsbefore building a large modern dwelling house in 1923. They alsobuilt a new barn.
They had five children. They retired from farming and moved toStephen in 1948. Their son Norman purchased the farm in 1948, and heand his wife were still the owners in 1976.
